Straight No Chaser, is a now professional A Capella vocal group, touring the States. The University of Indiana, was where, in 1996, an original body of students formed the Straight No Chasers a Capella group. When the original members of the group graduated, they were replaced by another student body of vocalists, assuming the same performing name, which, as you can imagine, became quite confusing.
The original body of vocalists made a comical video recording of the 12 Days of Christmas, in 1998, and the track went absolutely viral, and by late 2008, they were given a recording contract. However, the original body of vocals turned professional and performed under the original name, while, the University also had a vocal group performing under the same name. This status quo continued for a long time, until finally in 2012, when the University group changed its name to Another Round. The professional group has kept the original name, and have since begun touring America and recording in their own right, as the professional performing group you know and love.
This then, Straight No Chaser, are the original group of vocalists, touring the country, and having kept the original name from their university days. The group has so far recorded ten albums, some Christmas releases and many of the albums have also featured celebrity artists, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Phil Collins and Dolly Parton to name but a very few. The A cappella group's name is a conscious evocation of the popular slang phrase often used in requesting a drink at a pub or a bar, and they have maintained and expended this tradition into the titling of their albums in the same conscious relation to the Pub drinks industry. Often also featuring seasonal themed names like, "Christmas Cheers," "With A Twist," "Raise Your Spirits," and the ever popular, "I'll Have Another… Christmas Album!."
This June the band also release their latest album, "Yacht on the Rocks," and embark on a summer time, Yacht Rock Tour, most likely featuring various boating drinks, mixers and spritzers to enjoy while sailing. So, do look out for the boys as they sail off into the sunset this June and July, and maybe you too can enjoy some interesting twists, like, "Sailing," "Waves of Toto," and "Reelin’ In The Years."
